Define catharsis definition – a word in Greek which means cleaning. However the most used catharsis definition is in the meaning of cleaning or purifying our feelings, soul and spirit.
Catharsis definition is widely used in tragic and dramatic events, usually when we are talking about forms of art like TV, poetry and theater. In these cases we see something very scary, usually related to emotions and feelings. But in the end, at the Catharsis phase we realize that out emotions have been changed and although we had difficult we can now use it to be in another place – a better one. It is like crying because of something, when it over it makes us feel better. All the bad emotions have gone from us and we now have the strength to continue with our lives.
When we watch a tragedy at the theater it wakes up strong emotions which need to be cleared. So the Catharsis is the way to change them, living us with good feelings after all. However this doesn’t mean that we have a happy end like in the fairy tales. Sometimes the situation is ended up very bad like death but there is always a positive point of view that can comfort us. Another way to look at catharsis definition it is the aspect of change, as states before, it is emotional change but it can also leads us to behavioral and even physical change. Sometimes there are people who tried to manipulate this phenomenon to gain things in the wrong way. It was used to effect the emotions of people in order to drive them for a certain action. It can be political protest but also a call to fight someone. And those who are easily turned on have follow this deadly root.
But there are also good uses of the catharsis definition like in psychology therapy where the patients need to remember his traumatic events in order to flood his suppressed feelings again, and by doing it he can change them or at least to ease the bad feelings.
